Appearance

Uniform medium scarlet red with purple tones.

Nose

Reasonably open. Ripe cherries, plums, slight woodiness.

Palate

Reflects the nose accurately with plums and spicy cherries in a light to medium body, with sweetness matched by acidity. Faintly tannic. Fruit recedes quickly, but the acids and alcohol linger with a hint of vanilla sweetness and tobacco on the finish.

Overall

An unpretentious and tasty budget drop which makes for a great everyday quaffer. While it's a bit light for grilled red meats, the acid and pleasantly warming 13.9% alcohol are well-suited to washing down any red-sauced pasta or a margherita pizza. One of the cheapest varietal bottles available but it doesn't taste it. Don't let the plastic cork put you off.
