Appearance

Clear ruby red.

Nose

Redcurrants, plums, cherries, vanilla.

Palate

Medium body. Predominantly red fruit and vanilla on the front palate, but quickly overwhelmed by an almost sour acidity through the mid-palate. A slight spiciness and perhaps the merest hint of dark chocolate, but the dominant impression is slightly unripe red fruit (cherries, raspberries).

Overall

This 55% malbec-dominant blend has little initial appeal – the unpleasant acidity overwhelms any complexities that might be lurking underneath. However, having let the wine breath for some considerable time (overnight, in fact) the acidity recedes considerably to reveal a more likeable ripeness in the fruit and generous amounts of vanilla. It's not a step you need to take though – there are plenty of more enjoyable wines in this price range including other Graffignas.
