Appearance

Deep, dark ruby red with violet tones. Good strong legs.

Nose

Black Doris plums, boysenberries, with liquorice and vanilla notes. Slightly herbaceous.

Palate

A full body with immediate complexity on the palate. Ripe juicy black plums with a touch of vanilla sweetness, balanced with fine, powdery tannins. Leather, tobacco, and a gentle spiciness from well-integrated oak. Aromatic notes of liquorice and mint or perhaps eucalyptus, and a hint of hazelnut on the satisfyingly long finish.

Overall

This wine sits in the upper middle price bracket by local standards. It is made of high quality fruit from lower-yielding vines, and has spent eight (?) months in oak (50% American, 50% French). The inputs show clearly in the result – a wonderfully well-crafted, complex and satisfying wine. Probably lacks the bones for serious cellar time but drinking superbly now, and will give many much more expensive wines a serious run for your money! Marketed in the United States as "Don Miguel Gascon Malbec" and the UK simply as “Gascon Malbec”.
